Kamppi

Kampin päiväkodissa panostamme vahvasti viestintään luodaksemme luottamuksellisia suhteita perheisiin. Päivittäisen kanssakäymisen lisäksi lapsesi opettajan kanssa käytämme Kindiedays-sovellusta viestinnän tueksi. Sovelluksen avulla pidämme sinut ajan tasalla lapsesi oppimisesta ja toiminnasta päivittäin ja viikoittain, jotta pysyt tiiviisti mukana hänen matkapolullaan.

Tervetuloa Finnish American Kindergarten in Kamppiin!

Our Kamppi kindergarten offers places for 3 to 7-year-old children, including a preschool (esikoulu) group.

Our children and teachers come from all over the world, creating a rich international and multicultural atmosphere. At Kamppi, we wish to create a safe environment where children can play and learn, be creative and inspired, take risks, allow themselves to make mistakes, laugh and face disappointments. Children are offered opportunities to practice their skills in co-operation, trying new experiences and taking on responsibilities. We value independence and inter-dependence, respecting ourselves and others, we celebrate diversity and we strive to promote a strong environmental awareness. As the children grow older, we focus on school readiness. Our teachers work together towards creating a unified group so that children and their families can ‘feel at home’ when at the kindergarten. We follow the guidelines for the Finnish National Core Curriculum for Early Childhood Education and Care as well as the City of Helsinki Curriculum for Early Childhood and Preschool Education.

Our Kamppi kindergarten is conveniently located near tram lines 6, 7, 8, 9 and the Ruoholahti and Kamppi Metro stations. Köydenpunojanpuisto and Työmiehenpuistikko parks are within a 3-minute walking distance. Children spend time at the nearby parks twice a day and additional outdoor activities such as physical education sessions, nature walks or outdoor games are planned weekly.

Our groups

Butterflies

3-4 Years Old

In the Butterflies group, we focus on hands-on exploration and play-based learning, fostering a joyful and nurturing environment where children can thrive. Through engaging activities, children develop friendship skills, emotional awareness, and early literacy as they discover the world around them. We believe that when children feel secure and happy, they become better learners. Our supportive community encourages curiosity and creativity, empowering our Butterflies to become confident and active participants in their learning journey.

Crocodiles

5 Years Old

In the Crocodiles group, children build confidence in expressing their individual interests. We tailor our themes based on what excites the kids, offering a variety of fun activities and projects. This year, we will start introducing more challenging concepts, including literacy and basic math skills. Children will learn to play independently as well as in small and large groups, all while forming friendships and developing self-confidence. Our warm and supportive environment encourages helpfulness toward others, ensuring that every child feels valued.

Sharks

6 Years Old

At the Sharks group, we take pride in being part of the Helsinki city preschool system, adhering to the Finnish National Core Curriculum. We focus on hands-on learning that fosters essential life skills such as creativity, critical thinking, communication, and teamwork. Our program emphasizes social-emotional learning (SEL), mindfulness, and a growth mindset, helping children understand their feelings, build resilience, and embrace challenges.

Our Sharks engage in literacy, math, science, music, and physical health through interactive projects and activities, becoming more independent and confident problem-solvers. We prepare our children not only for school but for life, encouraging them to take charge of their own learning and become responsible members of their community. In our warm and supportive environment, we celebrate each child’s uniqueness and promote collaboration, empowering every child to thrive as confident, engaged learners ready for a bright future!

Circle time

Circle Time for us is a time when children come together to discuss, play games, sing songs, dance and prepare themselves for the day ahead. During Circle Time, we learn about the days of the week, months, seasons, the weather and introduce our themes, projects or daily activities. Circle Time is important for developing language and social skills.

Parents as Partners

At our kindergarten, we value parents as essential partners in their children’s education. You know your children best, and your insights are invaluable to us. By working together, we can positively influence your child’s development and learning. Our ultimate goal is to support each child in reaching their full potential, and we believe that building trusting relationships with parents is key to achieving this. We encourage open communication and a two-way exchange of information, knowledge, and expertise.

We actively invite parents to join us during specific sessions as co-educators, sharing their passions and expertise with the children. This collaboration enriches our community and allows children to take pride in their learning experiences, knowing that their families are actively involved.

At Kamppi Finnish American Kindergarten, we love celebrating the unique cultures of our families! We invite you and your children to share your languages and family traditions with us. By doing so, we create a nurturing environment where every child can thrive and grow. Please let us know about any special days that are important to you, and feel free to join us in sharing stories, foods, and traditions. This collaborative spirit helps us create a beautiful blend of cultures in our kindergarten, enriching our community and fostering a sense of belonging for all.

Together, we’ll create a warm and nurturing environment where every child can thrive and grow.

Areas of Development

Throughout the year, we explore these areas through integrated themes and projects. While we have established themes like seasons and holidays, we truly value the children’s interests, allowing their curiosity to shape our learning journey. This approach keeps education exciting and meaningful, ensuring that every child flourishes in our warm and welcoming environment.
